AAS = Associate of Applied Science

The health information technology program teaches students the duties and responsibilities of health care managers, medical billing and coders, medical records specialists, billing and posting clerks, medical transcriptionists, business administrative assistants and office managers. Through textbooks, applications and simulations, students are given the opportunity to develop the skills required for this field of study. These skills include ICD-10-CM/PCS & CPT coding, insurance and billing, medical transcription, medical records management and reception area responsibilities.  

IMPORTANT: Beginning with the 2027–28 academic year, the AAS degree requirements will change. SPCH 10003 and PSYC 11003 or SOCI 10103 will be removed from the degree requirements. They will be replaced by Introduction to US Government (PLSC 20003) and US History (HIST 21103 or HIST 21203), which will become required courses for the AAS degree.
