Medical Laboratory Technology AAS = Associate of Applied Science
The medical laboratory technology (MLT) program prepares the graduate to function in various settings, including hospitals, research, crime, environmental health, blood donation centers and clinical reference laboratories. The MLT program is fully accredited by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS).   

Admission into the program is limited to the availability of clinical space at hospital affiliates, completion of all prerequisites and selective admission criteria.

Program Outcomes

    1. Produce a skilled medical laboratory professional with the knowledge and competence in the theoretical principles inherent to the performance of medical laboratory testing.
    2. Prepare students to demonstrate their professional knowledge, skills, and abilities needed in the Medical Lab setting to gain and maintain the confidence of patients, professional associates and the community.
    3. Workplace Readiness: Graduates will be fully prepared for immediate job placement in the medical laboratory field, possessing the practical skills, theoretical knowledge, and professional competence required to perform effectively in a clinical setting through internships/practicum.
    4. Transfer to Upper Division Programs: Graduates will be well-prepared to pursue further education by transferring to upper division programs in medical laboratory science or related fields. The students will be able to apply the foundational knowledge and skills necessary to seamlessly transition into advanced coursework, ensuring their academic success at the next level of education.
    5. Certification Exam Eligibility: Graduates will be eligible to sit for a nationally recognized certification examination at the MLT level, equipped with the knowledge and competencies necessary to succeed and become certified professionals in the medical laboratory field.

Transfer Options

As successful graduates of the MLT program at ASU-Beebe, students can benefit from our partnership with the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS). Through the UAMS Distance Learning program, students can further their education by obtaining their Bachelor of Science degree as a Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS). If accepted, students can work full-time as an MLT while completing any outstanding MLS prerequisites and MLS coursework online.
