ASU-Beebe Art Exhibit Features Faculty Member Tonia Spradlin
Posted Date: 12/3/24

The Arkansas State University–Beebe Art Department is proud to present the featured artworks of faculty member Tonia Spradlin, assistant professor of business, during the month of December.

A retirement reception for the artist will be held Friday, Dec. 6, starting at 5 p.m. in the gallery. Admission is free and the gallery is open to the public.

“Growing up as a military brat on the tropical island of Puerto Rico shaped my early years in a unique way. As a teenager, it was a sharp contrast moving to Arkansas when my father retired from the Navy,” Spradlin said.

Over the years, Spradlin says she has developed a unique art style that reflects her appreciation for the natural world – with a twist of color. Using acrylic paint, Spradlin says she uses art to bring her vision and imagination to life.

“I have a passion for vivid colors and dynamic compositions,” Spradlin said. “My painting style is forgiving and allows layers of color and adjustments that reflect the process of flexibility and moving forward.”

Spradlin said her artistic journey is marked by the desire to encourage the appreciation for the beauty in her surroundings. Through her art, she invites the audience to explore the intricate details of nature.

Spradlin has served ASU-Beebe for 31 years, beginning her career working in the Learning Center and Registrar’s Office, before teaching mathematics and business courses.

Additionally, she earned an associate degree in business administration from ASU-Beebe, a bachelor’s in business administration from ASU at Jonesboro, and a master’s degree in business administration from Webster University.

Many of Spradlin’s artworks have been displayed in homes of family and friends and in several offices and hallways on the Beebe campus.

“As I prepare to retire from teaching business courses, I am excited to start a new chapter of my life as a student of art,” Spradlin said.
