Arkansas State University-Beebe’s emergency medical services (EMS) program is excited to announce the award of a Health Trauma Subgrant of $8,536 from the Arkansas Department of Health and Office of Preparedness and Emergency Response Systems.
“Trauma is a topic that is part of the basis of EMS health care,” said Josh Rainbolt, interim EMS director. “The subgrant will be used by the EMS program to purchase specialized simulation equipment and supplies to enhance student learning in the area of emergency care.”
Dr. Joseph Scott, dean of the math and science division, said that the trauma topic will allow individuals graduating from the EMS program to earn certifications in advanced cardiac life support, cardiopulmonary resuscitation and pediatric advanced life support.
“This added trauma topic will also prepare graduates for opportunities in careers that include emergency departments, urgent care clinics and disaster and wilderness medicine,” said Scott.
Students in the EMS program can earn certification in the national registry of emergency medical technicians and can be licensed through the Arkansas Department of Health. Other areas of study in the EMS program include emergency pharmacology, cardiology, care for the sick and injured, airway management and emergency surgical procedures.
