The ASU–Beebe Art Department is proud to present the artworks of Arkansas artist Dolores Justus Reuther at the England Center Art Gallery during the month of October.
The public is invited to meet Justus and view her work during the exhibit reception from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 5 in the England Center Art Gallery, located at 201 North Orange Street in Beebe.
Justus is a Hot Springs based painter, art director, and designer. Drawing from her early years in Oregon and her life in the South, she creates expressive landscapes that explore patterns of light, form, optics, and abstraction. Inspired by the natural world, Justus’ paintings reflect a sensitive and intuitive view that distills patterns of light and form into compositions that engage and inspire.
“I’ve always had a strong identification with nature and am continually in awe of the depth of inspiration that it offers,” Justus said. “Despite all its variety, there are essential elements in it, and in us all, that we respond to. It is those universal, underlying truths that I seek to communicate in my own work.”
Her painterly style also contributes to the interactive quality of her art. In her exploration of the confluence of optics and painterly abstraction, her work belongs to the “new landscape” movement of contemporary American art.
Justus earned a bachelor’s degree in fine art from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock in 1988. Her work has been exhibited more than 100 solo and group shows throughout the nation and abroad for more than 30 years. Collections include the Arkansas Museum of Fine Art in Little Rock, the Alluvian Hotel in Greenwood, Mississippi, the University of Arkansas Medical Sciences, Arkansas Children’s Hospital, and the Historic Arkansas Museum.
Justus’ work has also been featured on the cover of Elegant Homes Magazine (Spring/Summer 2021, January 2019, Fall/Winter 2017), on the HBO series True Detective (2019), and was curated into Studio Visit Magazine, Vol. 53.
In addition to her work as an artist, Justus is also the owner and curator of Justus Fine Art Gallery in Hot Springs. She has also served as an art director and owner of the Justus Design & Marketing firm. Justus’ strong visual design and literary skills have been employed in a variety of advertising and commercial mediums.
