Arkansas State University-Beebe is proud to announce the establishment of a privately funded scholarship to honor Teddy Davis, dean of the Division of Arts and Humanities, who has served the college for 41 years.
Davis received her Associate of Arts degree from ASU-Beebe in 1978. She then transferred to Arkansas State University in Jonesboro and earned a Bachelor of Science in Education with a focus in social studies in 1980, a Master of Science in Education with a focus in political science in 1981, and a specialist degree in community college teaching in 1983.
Davis’ experience in teaching actually began as a student teacher for 8th grade history in Jonesboro in the spring of 1980 and she taught a summer course at Foothills Vocational Technical School in Searcy. She then returned to ASU in fall 1980 to continue her degree while serving as a graduate assistant from 1980 to 1982 and then as a teaching intern from 1982 to 1983. Davis then returned to ASU-Beebe as an instructor in 1983. She was promoted to assistant professor in 1987 and associate professor in 2008.
Davis’ administrative leadership began in 2002 as division chair of the education and social sciences division until ASU-Beebe was reorganized in 2017. She continued to serve as program coordinator of the arts and humanities division from 2018 to 2020. She was then named interim dean of the arts and humanities division from 2019 to 2020 and has served as dean since 2020.
Davis’ professional associations include serving on the board of the Arkansas Political Science Association, Arkansas Community Colleges organization, Arkansas Dean’s Association and the National Association of Concurrent Enrollment Partnerships.
“I’ve been on all sides of education,” Davis said. “As an instructor and then through advising, it has been gratifying to help a student discover what they wanted to do with their education. This scholarship can help in providing the financial means to achieve those educational goals.”
The criteria for the Teddy Davis Educational Scholarship includes being a full-time student at ASU-Beebe and maintaining at least a GPA of 2.5. This scholarship is available to students attending any ASU-Beebe campus.
“Now, more than ever, students need the financial support to complete college,” said Andrea Cole, ASU-Beebe development officer/major gifts. “We are so thankful for the establishment of the Teddy Davis Educational Scholarship. We also hope that the generosity of donors will be an inspiration for the next generation to pay it forward and continue the cycle of giving.”
